You Are Naming Your Baby. . . . . What?

My name is E-l-o-d-i-a. I wouldn't make that up. My mother did, but I wouldn't. People often ask me if I got teased, when I was a child, because of my name. I tell them Nope". Children didn't have a problem with my name. It's the adults that seem to have a problem. Looking back, I have two theories why I wasn't teased for my name. One is that children tease the obvious and they had plenty of material...

Baby Products Safety Tips

Tamara Williams

Sometimes when you are out there looking for products and accessories for your baby you may find a huge amount of different options. This may be a little confusing (well, a lot if you are a first-time mom), so here are three small but useful tips to help you get the product you are looking for keeping your baby's safety at the same time.

Tip number one: Toys. Every kid likes toys, and babies are not the exception. Watching them play is a joy, but be careful. Avoid giving your baby toys that may have loose parts, or parts that are small enough to be swallowed. Also look for toys that can resist chewing without losing any paint portions. This way you will avoid intoxication risks; keep your baby away from toys that have strings or that are not unbreakable.

Tip number two: Gates Baby gates are used to prevent toddlers to go into an area of your home that may not be totally safe, such as the kitchen. Buy those gates that are one piece and attach themselves to the door frame. Do not use accordion gates, for they have been responsible of a lot of accidents (they are not manufactured anymore, but there may be a lot of them still available on shops). Pay attention to those gates placed on top of the stairs, make sure that is no possible way for your baby to climb (that includes getting rid of any large toy that may be used to climb).

Tip number three: Walkers. There is only one thing to say about walkers: avoid them. It was medically proved that they do not improve your baby ability to walk, and can be very dangerous. A baby in a walker may acquire enough speed and momentum to break through a gate and fall from the top of the stairs, or he may walk directly into a very dangerous place, such as the street if you happen to leave the door opened. Besides any tip I may give you, there is an obligation you have as a parent: never leave a baby without adult supervision, even for a little time. Remember, accidents happen in less than one second, but they are remembered for a lifetime.

Unusual Baby Names - A Popular Trend

Parents today seem to be favoring unusual baby names. At one point in history, over half of the children born were given popular names. No more. Today's trend is to break with the traditional. Your picking a name because you love it, not because of what everybody else thinks of it. A name is central to a child's earliest sense of identity. It's often the first word he or she learns to read and write. Naming trends of today are defined by celebrities, literary classics, and even name brands. Look no further than your favorite book, car, or brand for baby name ideas. Names like Armani", Del Monte",...

Diapers: Do You Choose Disposable Or Reusable?

Diapers. . Changing a dirty diaper is not the best part of having a baby, but there's no escaping it. And you'd better get used to it - you'll be changing around 5, 000 diapers before baby's potty trained! The first question is whether to use disposable diapers or reusable. In a nutshell, disposables are less trouble, more expensive, and not environmentally friendly. Your Granny wouldn't recognise a reusable diaper today. Gone are the cotton squares and safety pins, replaced by shaped cotton inside a waterproof outer cover and fastened with velcro. Flushable liners hold solids. Reusables will...
